More than 40 events for young people from Villingen-Schwenningen and the surrounding area were held throughout 2007 at the Jugend- und Kulturscheune Klosterhof, located between Villingen and Schwenningen, attracting over 9,500 visitors.
These included successful events such as the newcomer competition "VS Rockt" as well as the festivals "Fast Umsonst und Drinnen" and "Fast Umsonst und Draussen".
In its first year under the responsibility of the Jugendförderungwerk Villingen-Schwenningen e. V., regional up-and-coming rock bands were supported, and a youth scene emerged that consciously wants to distance itself from "flat-rate parties" and commercial activities.
Now, this positive development is threatened as the Jugendscheune is in urgent need of renovation and must also comply with the requirements of the assembly venues regulation. The renovation and upgrade have been estimated at 400,000 to 500,000 euros. From the city's side, the Jugendscheune has been practically shut down for legal reasons, and it is currently unclear how things will proceed.
What is certain is that the demand is there, as is the willingness of young people to get involved.
