There are always releases that stand out from the crowd. Whether it's because the packaging is particularly beautiful and elaborate or because it's a particularly rare edition.
YELLOW UMBRELLA from Dresden, a ska institution, like The Busters, have not released a new album in seven years, but have always played diligently, and this band is indispensable in the scene.
The last album “Hooligans of Love“ (the review of this album can be read here: https://www.ramtatta.de/s/reviews/f/details/id/7888/ ) not only countered the unfortunately still prevailing bad mood and latent aggression in society with its title, but the album was also much noted musically.
YELLOW UMBRELLA has now been around for 30 years. A good time to make a big splash, and in 2024, the band will release two albums.
One is “The Yellow Album“ and the other is “The Black Album“. The Hives had a similar title with “The Black and White Album“ (which I think is also one of the best albums by The Hives).
Wasn't there also a band from the USA that released a black album? What were they called again?
So YELLOW UMBRELLA is in good company.
The band from the capital of Saxony has been stylistically very diverse for many years. They offer the finest 2-Tone, lively ska, but also relaxed reggae sound.
The band from Dresden has divided the styles on their double release.
On “The Yellow Album“, there is reggae and all sorts of calmer music. I hear ska, jazz, very calm rock, and above all, as always, a lot of groove.
The album with the yellow cover shows with nine tracks that YELLOW UMBRELLA continues to be one of the icons in Germany when it comes to ska and reggae.
Especially in this gray, rainy, dreary weather, this music is a blessing.
The sound reminds me of summer... warm nights, relaxed dancing, enjoying the moment... perhaps also with a loved one in your arms.
The music is medicine.
On the album, the band is supported by MC Longfingah, who is also a well-known figure in the reggae scene.
Anyone who has even a bit of ska or reggae love in their blood cannot pass by this yellow album. It breathes groove.

The vinyl version of “The Yellow Album“ will be released on 11.05.2024. Like the CD, the vinyl will be released by the label Pork Pie from Berlin.
Pork Pie from Berlin is at least as well-known in the scene as YELLOW UMBRELLA.
