Is someone trying to mock the label of Die Ärzte with “Hot Action Waxing” instead of “Hot Action Records”? Or is this a slogan for a Brazilian waxing studio with particularly dedicated staff?
The name is definitely a good start. The band from the beautiful and tranquil Freiburg im Breisgau has released an EP titled “Don´t Care,” which is apparently already sold out as a CD. It’s a good thing that the band is now following up with their first album.
What can we expect from Freiburg im Breisgau? I know this quiet city has a good punk scene and some really excellent shops, but what can the people from this city do with their instruments?
HOT ACTION WAXING have their musical roots in garage punk, mixed with a bit of old-school street punk and a good portion of rock’n’roll. The result is a noisy sound with a snotty aggression that is a lot of fun right from the first listen.
Then the first song is also called “Drink away the pain.” The band has us hooked already, right?
The nine songs on “Waxing is a Lifestyle” (which could also refer to a certain preference that we won’t name out of discretion. We don’t want to trigger anyone uncomfortably. That just raises blood pressure, and that’s not good. Besides, it’s probably just the styling on the head that’s meant) are catchy.
Some songs rumble along pleasantly, others push forward with the pressure of street punk, and the rest of the songs are somewhere between these two poles.
HOT ACTION WAXING are positively old school.
That has also been recognized by bands like Mad Sin, Toxoplasma, The Exploited, or GBH. The Freiburg band has already shared the stage with these bands.
The Freiburgers are making quite a racket with their first album.
I’m excited to see the band live.
The vinyl of the album will be released by Wolverine Records, the well-known label from Düsseldorf with a knack for good music.
