BITTTER, only real with three T's.
If Bitter is not bitter enough for you, then there is BITTTER, because life is not bitter enough.
The band from Hamburg released their album “Sad Songs for happy people“ back in 2022, but I only just became aware of this work. Even though it’s already two years old, I don’t want to withhold this work and the band from anyone who doesn’t know them yet.
BITTER is a band made up of members who have played in Maintain, Egozid, and Goodbye Jersey, and are currently playing in Rantanplan.
With “Sad Songs for happy people“, BITTER has thrown a real beast onto the market that cannot be easily categorized.
Hardcore of the old and mid-school is the foundation. On this foundation, a framework of Screamo, Nu Metal, Punk, and indeed Hardcore is built.
Songs like “Shower Days“ or “Credit“ are true Circle-Pit bangers. They charge forward with a lot of anger. It’s a lot of fun to listen to and to get into it.
Songs like “Commercial Breakdown“ carry a decent portion of American punk within them, and alongside all the heavy guitars, a fine, rounded singing comes from the microphone. I can see a festival stage in front of me where people go wild, while also enjoying the light stadium attitude.
The first song “Under the Pines“ is a very calm piece, perhaps even foreboding future trouble, which serves more as an intro before it kicks off with “Payable till Death“ at full throttle. Here too, the fine, rounded singing can be heard, which is then replaced by furious hardcore screamo.
It’s pretty cool that something like this doesn’t have to come from the USA.
With this album, BITTTER has made more than just a statement, which surely won’t please everyone, but also doesn’t aim to please everyone. The band does what they feel like, and what has come out of it is worth listening to.
BITTTER is a discovery that should be kept an eye on.
