Punk rock all over the world, it is said, and reports, documentaries, and stories confirm this time and again. Whether in Europe, Southeast Asia, or South America, there are punk rock bands everywhere, and there are people who carry the same spirit within us.
Since 2009, there has also been a band in Guadeloupe that has made punk rock known on the archipelago. Guadeloupe is part of the French Antilles, which are located in the Caribbean.
THE BOLOKOS may already be familiar to some, as they have played at the legendary “Rebellion Festival“ in Blackpool (UK).
In 2019, the trio released their first album, and now, on January 31, 2025, the well-known label Wolverine Records will release the band's second album in a limited colored vinyl edition of 300 copies. The album was already released in 2024 in Guadeloupe and is only available here as an import.
A band from the Caribbean sounds like rum, relaxed sound, a bit of dancing, and above all, sunshine in the heart.
THE BOLOKOS play punk rock of the older school. You can hear influences from the UK Subs, but rock influences are also dominant. The band blends all of this with Caribbean rhythms. I hear calypso, pub rock, hints of reggae and ska, as well as sounds I know from Cuba. It’s a unique mix that reveals new flavors like a surprising rum cocktail.
The songs are sung partly in English and partly in Creole.
So, in addition to the band's origin, there is another interesting point.
THE BOLOKOS play a sound that I have never heard before based on punk rock, and it sounds very interesting, new, and exciting. It also shows that punk is not dead and does not smell bad, but that punk rock continually reinvents itself and offers new approaches.
THE BOLOKOS perform made up, in a mix of Clockwork Orange aesthetics and clown masquerade. If I imagine it that way, it can... no, it will definitely be a really hot mix that the band presents on the boards that mean the world. The band will play in Germany on the following dates:
04.4.25 ESSEN – Don't Panic
05.4.25 SOJUS 7 Boat Tour
09.4.25 RATINGEN – Manege
11.4.25 HAMBURG – Monkeys
12.4.25 BERLIN – Wild at Heart
Going is a must because:
Captivating music
Sympathetic band
Unique style mix
And who has ever seen a punk rock band from the Caribbean? Exactly!
