What can THE SEXY DRUGS do?
Drugs that are sexy can... be many things.
THE SEXY DRUGS from Kaiserslautern are releasing their fourth album, “Reckless Memories“, which was essentially recorded a second time.
Why?
Because not everything in life goes smoothly, and a second, thoughtful attempt is sometimes better than a stormy first try.
The eleven songs of the band are stylistically situated in the triangle of pop-punk, power-pop, and melodic mid-tempo punk rock. I hear the wild parts reminiscent of the Ramones, but Gluecifer or The Hellacopters could also serve as references, although it must be said that the mentioned bands approach things in a distinctly wilder manner. If I imagine the vocals out of the picture, the path to Yeti Girls isn’t far. This legendary band from Cologne embodies for me the essence of pop-punk.
Some songs from the band from Rhineland-Palatinate could find a place on the playlist of the next punk rock night. I’m thinking of “There’s a Record Playin (all night long)“ or the powerful “Pools of Blood“. There’s some really fine pig rock with “My Leatherjacket smells like a gun“. If that piece isn’t enough, you’ll get a proper second helping with “Straightjacket Calypso“.
If you prefer classic UK punk, “Reckless Memories“ serves up a great song that really pushes forward in the chorus.
The album offers a lot and shows what the band is capable of.
