TEENAGE BOTTLEROCKET are releasing their tenth studio album, “Ready to Roll“, after 25 years of band history.
The band from Wyoming is one of those that took advantage of the waning California punk wave to show that there is also exciting punk rock coming from other states in the USA. Fat Mike recognized this with his label “Fat Wreck Chords“ and has released five albums by the band. The current album is being released on “Pirate Press Records“, a label that has a good knack for punk rock and related genres.
25 years of band history is a long time, and many bands that used to make fresh, entertaining punk rock have become quieter over time. This is completely understandable, as age takes its toll on all of us.
TEENAGE BOTTLEROCKET kick off “Ready to Roll“ as if the last 25 years never happened.
Fresh, full of energy, and with a casualness that borders on nonchalance, they show what it means to play upbeat punk rock.
With “Ready to Roll“, the opener, things get off to a great start, and when the second song on the album ignites the next level, it sounds like the young Ramones.
The 14 songs on the album are very diverse, sometimes sounding like Ramones, sometimes like refreshing skate punk, sometimes like a party, and at times even contemplative.
Highlights among the 14 songs include “I want to die on my birthday“, “High Speed Yoga“, and “Stupid Song“, which in its delicate electronic guise even reminds me of The Cure.
The release is available on vinyl in various color variants. There’s something for collectors as well as for those who discover “Ready to Roll“ as the band’s first album.
TEENAGE BOTTLEROCKET are releasing an album with “Ready to Roll“ that is fresh and full of energy, just like 20 years ago.
