VOLORES is a duo from Denver, Colorado, USA.
VOLORES consists of Shelby and Nathan Maxwell (bassist of Flogging Molly) and the album “Shores of Scorpio,” set to be released on April 10, 2026, is their second album.
Their first album already attracted quite a bit of attention, and now they are following up.
Until now, VOLORES was unknown to me. The information that came with the CD piqued my curiosity.
What will “Shores of Scorpio” be like?
The eleven songs are all complex and demand to be listened to and explored. It has a very unique, rather dark style. Rock, sometimes epic, sometimes powerful, sometimes driving, and sometimes playful meets powerful, emotional vocals.
On the album, Shelby processes, among other things, the event that her biological father was not the man she thought he was. That is something that would certainly throw anyone off balance. Instead of going to a therapist, Shelby tried to process this through music, with new pieces.
Due to this event, the overall tone of the album is dark, gloomy, and some songs even have a pull into the darkness. Here, (human) abysses are made audible.
However, it is not just a dark album that serves as a musical backdrop for processing one's own life. There are also positive moments. These are parts full of energy. Here, one can stand up.
