Dude, you need punk rock! You get it here, and it's full throttle.
The Düsseldorf punk rock band "Jolly Roger" combines everything needed to be well entertained on their recordings. A crystal-clear production, well-thought-out lyrics, and a certain aggression and hardness that rightfully carries the term "punk rock".
With "Jolly Roger," the title track of the demo CD, it kicks off right away. Initially, the theme of "pirates" is beautifully incorporated into the song as an intro, and after the first notes, you are simply captivated. Melodies that won't let you go and encourage you to celebrate.
With "Alles für nichts," it continues seamlessly. Chris's voice is simply hard to categorize and has a bit of everything.
A touch of melancholy, a bit of pop attitude, and a whole lot of energy and grit.
"Ich will weg" often speaks to the soul. Lyrically a very good song, but personally, I find it just too short. So I had to listen to it a second time. And that doesn't happen often.
"Feuer," the name of the next track, starts a bit like a number from the "NWOBHM" era. Classic metal elements in the intro of the song transform into a pure punk rock number, where a few parallels to local giants like Broilers or Massendefekt cannot be denied. However, this should not be rated negatively in any way.
Melodically and creatively arranged, it continues with "All die Jahre," which can be assigned a bit to the German rock corner.
But to emphasize it right from the start... There are no Onkelz attitudes to be heard, and I forbid any comparisons to Frei.Wild. For me, the term is a genre that has been completely ruined by such bands!!!
Back to the topic... Of course, this piece also has the necessary "balls" that you simply need for punk rock. There is a unity in the studio. And if only 20% of that is shown on stage, then I’ll gladly leave my "punk rock balls" at the entrance before they get wiped away.
With "Ungewollt," there’s a number that I can wonderfully imagine on a big festival stage. An Ohhhooooo choir with 20,000 people, a Jolly Roger formation in top form... and the crowd would go absolutely wild.
And even with the penultimate piece, I can only give top marks. Lyrically, finally a piece against the right, which not only works with phrases but is simply well thought out and intelligent. And musically, it’s just a bomb.... that’s "Wehrlos"
What can I say.
8x punk rock
8x different moods
8x the word "awesome" comes to my lips... and the best part... my dearest and I have found a band where we finally tick completely the same. She also says 8x awesome.... Should I be jealous of that?
Jollys, you have my full respect. At the concert, I’ll be in the front row and will loudly sing along to your lyrics....
