Long awaited, now it has finally arrived. The CD of the Meerbusch punk rock 'n' roller has just landed in my mailbox.
For your information, I would like to mention that a long-standing, successful decade has come to an end with the departure of the singer "Ole". And a new era begins, as Sebi now takes over the microphone alongside his guitar. To underscore this fresh start, 10 tracks from the 10-year band history have been re-recorded. And that's where we begin.
10 years of Massendefekt means 10 years of full energy punk rock 'n' roll with a sweat-inducing beat and the emotional singing of the aforementioned Ole, who is no longer part of the band. What can one expect? The answer... GOOSEBUMPS. The old songs (including Ein Leben Lang, Wo Rosen regnen, nimm mich mit) are not just re-recorded but are lived anew. This is a new chapter for Massendefekt. Harder, louder, and dirtier, yet still authentic and typical Massendefekt. The new voice has more range and significantly more GRIT in the vocal cords. This makes the band's playing style come across more energetically than ever. Congratulations... you have reinterpreted your own songs and infused a whole new feeling into the music.
Now, onto the second part of the review, the long-awaited latest work from Massendefekt titled "Tangodiesel". The rebirth and literally quoted, the BABY of Sebi. At this point, congratulations on the birth.
After the opener "überlebt", I would say it could be a pretty baby. Driving guitars, well produced, and a worthy sing-along chorus. But we will see in which direction the baby develops. "Der Hoffnung entgegen" sees the baby grow into a toddler. The vocal change is hardly noticeable after the second track. It is Massendefekt as always, but somehow better. "Du hast nichts" is a statement that does not fit the toddler, as the development continues here. After this song, the album grows a bit more. We have very nice riffing in the middle section and an incredibly beautiful drum production. "Der Fremde" sounds, if we stick with the idea that this album is truly a child, almost too precocious, as it keeps getting better and better. Lyrically, everything is at the highest level. Musically, everything so far is in your face. Okay, to be honest. Let's skip all this development nonsense, because at the latest from "Tagebuch", the child has grown up. Because now I have goosebumps and, from personal experiences, a tear or two in my eye.
But hey... it goes on, and how??!!!!! "der Moment war ewig" is pretty much the fastest I have heard from Massendefekt to date. A perfect pogo number that gets almost every venue boiling. If you are a traditional metal fan, then please try to headbang to the verse part in time??? Many greetings to your masseur!
This album continues seamlessly. Full speed rock 'n' roll with a lot of punk rock attitude, real ass-kicking music with a fun factor of 100. Lyrically, there are many things included that personally affect one or another. Simply genius.
So, you reading public, you will have to wait until 20.01.2012. But anyone who doesn't buy this is a philistine ![]()
Massendefekt 2011/12 is simply turbo... Go to the concerts, have a beer with the guys from Meerbusch, and enjoy the show and the album. And to all the critics, it should be said that the best Massendefekt album has been created here. To Sebi... once again, congratulations on the birth... but it is not a baby... it is a damn mature rock album... and let's see, maybe Steel Panther will soon be supporting you in Germany ![]()
