Since 2002, THE MOVEMENT from Denmark has been around.
In the last 16 years, the band has experienced everything, as far as I can tell.
A steep rise followed the release of “move!“ in 2003, and then their second album “Revolutionary Sympathies“ continued on the fast track. The band quickly advanced from an insider tip to the new hot thing. The terror group took them on tour. They played all over Europe. They played indoors and outdoors. They always gave 100% on stage. Hardly anyone could escape the joy of playing and the band. They were quickly on everyone's lips.
For the band, 100% was not only about their performance on stage but also their political views, which they were never shy about. For justice and for the workers. They have read Marx, Liebknecht and Luxemburg are icons for them, they see socialism as a solution for our society and they want that solution. One couldn't blame them back then and can't today either. Too much is going wrong on this earth, and let's be honest, what has improved in the last 16 years?
Thus, the band with their songs is more relevant than ever!
There have been many lineup changes in THE MOVEMENT. The steep rise was followed by a staircase leading downwards. The clubs got smaller, as did the open-air stages.
The head of the band, Lukas Scherfey, then recorded songs that he released under his own name. These songs were different from the songs of THE MOVEMENT. They were mostly fine, delicate, yearning love songs.
Unfortunately, success did not come. I would have wished it for him. They are beautiful, wonderfully beautiful songs.
THE MOVEMENT reformed again, again with new band members. And now, slowly but surely, things are starting to look up again.
The second album “Revolutionary Sympathies“ will be re-released by Concrete Jungle, just like the first album “move!“ and the third album “Fools like You“.
“Revolutionary Sympathies“ continues the path that the Danes took with “move!“. Lyrically still very concrete, the longing for justice is perhaps even more in the foreground, just like the desire for change towards socialism and communism. The song “Karl Marx“ illustrates this. What also plays a larger role is love, the longing for love, and the memory of being in love. Here, “So Alone“ and especially the magnificent “A little Rain“ should be mentioned.
Overall, the songs are even more melodic than on “move!“.
“Revolutionary Sympathies“ is more mature than the debut and perhaps the best album that THE MOVEMENT has released so far. The album unites everything that the band stands for, along with beautiful melodies. Lyrics that come from the heart and go to the heart.
In addition to the regular album, there are two bonus tracks with “No Jobs“ and an alternative version of “Still an echo“.
