Is it really already 30 years?

Or as Dr. Ring Ding writes in the foreword to this album:

How time flew since I wrote a few humble words about the 20 year´s anniversary compilation of PORK PIE.

Even though the label has been less active in recent years than in its younger days, it has certainly not lost its status as THE Ska label in Germany. A good instinct, enthusiasm, and the knowledge of that certain something have made the label great, and the releases of recent years show that quality over quantity still counts here. Even more than ever.

As is almost a good tradition with PORK PIE, this is not just a sampler with good music from good bands, but also features five new songs! For this sampler, THE FRITS have teamed up to record a cover version of “Time won’t let me” by The Outsiders. DISTEMPER and SKAOS also contribute an unreleased song, as does JOHNNY REGGAE RUB FOUNDATION.

Speaking of the bands gathered on the album, it truly is the cream of the crop from past and present. A young, fresh, and perhaps still unknown band is SMILEY & THE UNDERCLASS. They too get a chance to show what they can do, proving that Ska and related genres are not dead.

DR. RING DING has brought the 16 songs together into a total work of art. The transitions are fitting, and the sampler has a rare harmony today, even though everything from Ska to Reggae to Rocksteady is represented here.

What more can I say than that this sampler is one of the best I have had the pleasure of hearing in recent years. It is simply a small total work of art.

I wish PORK PIE all the best. Cheers to the next 30 years (hopefully).

You can also celebrate 30 years of PORK PIE on September 14, 2019, at the legendary and more than fitting SO36 in Berlin. Alongside some illustrious guests, bands like Blechreiz, The Frits (!!), Dr. Ring Ding & Band, and Skaos are already confirmed. Who knows what else will come, but if I may wish for something personally...

No party without Meyer!
