BIFFY CLYRO from Scotland are no longer strangers.
Since the band's formation in 1995, the trio from Scotland has released eight albums.
These albums, with their diverse music and intense concerts, have garnered more and more fans for the Scots. So it is not surprising that the tour planned for February and March 2022 will take place in large venues.
BIFFY CLYRO's ninth album bears the very fitting title “The Myth of the happily ever after,” which translates to “Der Mythos vom Glücklichsein bis ans Lebensende.” A title made for the waning Corona period.
The eleven songs on the album are very multifaceted, varied, and always presented with so much passion that even after multiple listens, it does not feel like something has been produced for the market.
The songs are emotional, delicate, almost fragile, like “Holy Water.” This song begins so softly and ends in a fierce storm of guitars and drums, experiencing the entire spectrum of emotions while listening (and certainly also while watching when “Holy Water” is performed live). It continues similarly with “Errors in the history of God.” However, the band can also be really hard, as “A Hunger in your haunt” proves. Here, hard alternative rock meets hardcore and emo-rock as well as punk. A piece that stands out a bit from the tracklist. It is no surprise that this song was also released as a single.
With this album, BIFFY CLYRO show that they feel comfortable not just in one genre, which everyone who already knows the band is sure of, but they do exactly what they like. They do what fits.
This interplay of hardness and emotion characterizes the album and makes the hard parts seem very hard and the emotional parts very tender. The impact of the songs is significant. It is hardly possible to escape the effect of the songs while listening.
The album is powerful. It is not light fare.
It is an album that resonates long after and reveals new subtleties upon repeated focused listening that one seemingly did not hear before. Thus, the album is a journey of discovery, a ride through the soul.
This complexity is rare and precisely why it is so special and precious.
With this, their ninth album, BIFFY CLYRO have erected a monument to themselves.
This monument comes in a beautiful digipack with a bonus CD! The second CD contains a live recording from 2020. This, perhaps somewhat too cleanly produced recording, shows that the band can produce their multifaceted sound not only in the studio but is also capable of playing it live.
Are there still more arguments needed to buy a concert ticket for 2022 to see BIFFY CLYRO live?
