To err is male.... and I’ve been led astray twice...
However, when an album is titled “On Your Face. Ready. Go!”, I expect straightforward, direct German punk. Especially when all the words in the 13 lyrics + acknowledgments & co. that feature two “s”s, like “Fresse”, “massiv”, “fusselig”, etc., are consistently written with “sz” in the booklet. First mistake, the 13 SOKO LINX songs are anything but simple German punk.
Even the first song “Für eine gute Tat” is some kind of electro-rap thing, which I can’t relate to at all. Good lyrics, but musically it’s poorly executed. Not my thing at all, and in a record store, I would have put the album back. But then !!!!
Shit gets real after that... Punk => yes, German-speaking punk rock => yes, simple German punk => no.
SOKO LINX are anything but monotonous, simple punk rock... If you’re looking for songs similar to FARIN URLAUB, you’re in for a treat with the other 12 SOKO LINX songs. Want an example? Check out the YouTube links... the three Leipzigers created videos for 7 of the 13 songs on “On Your Face. Ready. Go!”, including the three co-protagonists Sebastian Krumbiegel from PRINZEN, Rodi from 100 KILO HERZ, and YETUNDEY (whom I didn’t know before).
Some songs also drift into melodic pop-punk, like BLINK 182 / SUM 41, with German lyrics. Very cool....
SOKO LINX can also create good songs with electronic help, the first song is basically just a slip-up, check out the YouTube links for “Nur ein Verdacht”, “Ihr habt hier nichts zu suchen” or “muszichnich”. So aside from the first track, all the other 12 songs are damn great in their own way.... The lyrics too....
And then there’s one more thing that annoys me... The melody of the song “Sansibar”. The melody sounds so familiar to me... But even after listening to the album two dozen times (yes, I have the album on vinyl *yay*), I just can’t figure out where it’s from :-( My first suspicion was THE WEEKND, but that’s not it.. Does anyone know?!?!!?
