The film sheds light on the beginnings of a band that initially aimed for nothing but evolved from the West German punk movement to become one of the hottest rock groups in the country by the end of the 80s. The degree to which they operated back then, as this film shows, was narrow and often dangerous: no excess too wild, no scandal too glaring, between successful gags and embarrassing failures, the life and survival of a rock’n’roll band on the fast track.
However, the film is also a documentary about a vanished country, namely West Germany just before the reunification. Punk underground on one side and protests against nuclear reprocessing plants and the last steelworker strikes on the other, rampaging pop singers, police dog units with punk psychosis, and, incredibly, this is what music on television looked like back then...
