PLIZZKEN released their debut album in 2021.
It was a highly regarded debut with the beautiful and realistic title that may refer to everyone's little escapes, “And their paradise is full of Snakes“. The band gained attention primarily because Sebi from Stomper 98 founded the band.
Three years later... three years in which Sebi had to fight a lot due to health issues, the band is back. They have a new album in tow, which will be unleashed upon humanity on Friday, March 22, 2024.
“Do you really wanna know“ picks up exactly where the first album left off, based on the title. Do you really want to know everything? Do you really want to know all the backgrounds of something?
Well, PLIZZKEN takes us, for example, into the “Nassau Nightlife“ in a “Mad World“.
The songs are bursting with (defiant) street punk attitude and energy. The band really brings the pressure and noise. It's consistently fun to listen to the album, although the seventh song on the tracklist is somewhat confusing. A song I would expect more from a Brit-pop band. It evokes images of Trainspotting in me. This song doesn't quite fit on the album.
Is it an experiment? A song meant to challenge listening habits?
Whatever it is, the song gains attention because of it.
Musically, much of it is influenced by '77 punk street punk with a sound that could easily come from Stomper 98 or Toxpack.
The album is entirely in English, thus also offering the opportunity to score on an international level.
PLIZZKEN's second album has a lot that is really good, and yet, I don't know why, not much sticks in my head after listening. The album feels to me like the soundtrack of a lovely evening at Trinkteufel or in the Milchbar in Kreuzberg. You have a lot of fun, the entire range of emotions is addressed, and late in the evening, you think it was a great time with great music coming from the speakers. Maybe it doesn't take more to have a few beautiful hours. In this decaying world.
As is fitting, the album will only be released physically as vinyl.
