An era comes to an end.
One of the most influential and well-known bands in punk rock is calling it quits.
NOFX.
After 40 years, the band led by mastermind Fat Mike is closing this chapter of punk...yes, one might say, music history.
As a conclusion, after the "Single Album," which was released in 2021 (the review of the album at ramtatta.de can be read here: https://www.ramtatta.de/s/reviews/f/details/id/8826/ ) and the "Double Album" released in 2022 (the review at ramtatta.de can be read here: https://www.ramtatta.de/s/reviews/f/details/id/9532/ ), now comes the "Half Album" as a finale.
For NOFX, this marks the conclusion of their epic double album. A double album with five sides, spread across several releases. Just as silly and unconventional as they have always been, they are here as well. Although silly might be the wrong word, because what the band has done, they have always represented with a certain seriousness and vehemence.
So now it’s all over.
While NOFX tours through Europe with much joy, calling out prices we couldn't even have imagined a few years ago, the last release of the band comes with these five songs.
The "Half Album" includes everything that I...we have loved about NOFX for many years, yes, since the beginning of their time. Personal, somewhat quirky, and yet very serious lyrics, musically now very broad and pure punk rock numbers like the one you can hear here with "I´m a Rat."
The song "I´m a Rat" is, for me, the essence of NOFX. Even after so many years, such songs still bring a smile to my face. That’s why I love this band. The beginning of the lyrics says everything about punk rock:
I am a rat in a trap
And I'm happy about that
It’s hard to summarize it better than that.
Those who have been around for so long have, of course, seen many people come and go. The older we get, the more people leave us, depart forever. This is also addressed in the songs of this EP...uh, the "Half Album." It’s hard to avoid when looking back.
