When you have been involved with music for many years, whether as a lover, concert-goer, journalist, or fanzine writer like I am, you inevitably come across phrases like:
“Music has been dead for years.”
“There used to be more of a scene.”
“This is such old music, nobody listens to that anymore.”
Interestingly, there is still Punk, Psychobilly, Rockabilly, Hard Rock, Stoner Rock, and even Classic Rock.
Why?
Because it’s not just about music, but about a way of life, about living outside of everyday life... and about people who feel similarly to yourself.
TAME THE ABYSS is one of those bands that seems a bit out of time.
The first seconds of their opener “Loaded Gun” sound extremely like Queen. This continues throughout the entire album. There are always just small parts, sometimes a guitar riff, then the vocals, or a tiny melody.
However, TAME THE ABYSS do not simply imitate the UK band; there are more or less bad cover bands for that. For TAME THE ABYSS, Queen is a good reference in that their sound was born in the era when Freddie Mercury and his band celebrated great successes.
TAME THE ABYSS combine Hard Rock and Classic Rock on their debut album with the pressure and technique of today’s time into a sound that has a lot of groove and doesn’t sound outdated. TAME THE ABYSS rather get you moving with “They Live Again!” You find yourself tapping your foot, starting to sing along, and your mood lifts. This is especially true for songs like “This is the Love” or “Loaded Gun.”
The band’s debut album, with lovingly crafted cover artwork, is released on their own label, and if they continue like they have in recent years, a rocking path lies ahead for the band from Munich.
