The third album by SAFI is titled "Groteske," and that is exactly how the entire work can be described.
Without knowing what to expect, the first track of "Groteske" was something like a musically realized ambivalence between noise, provocation, and a kind of self-created music therapy.
It sounds exhausting, and in a way it is, but it is also fascinating what SAFI offers with a vocal range of 4 ½ octaves.
The voice is cutting, hissing, lamenting, provocative, and captivating.
The music, rough and certainly not adhering to established song structure guidelines, is something that drills into your skull, settles in, and doesn't let go.
SAFI has something to say. What they say is not beautiful; it is reality, as they see it, perceive it, and process it.
It is difficult to put the whole thing into words. The words that come to mind inadequately describe the atmosphere and the power of the twelve songs.
SAFI is avant-garde, no wave, cold wave, minimal industrial, electro noise...
.it is futile to describe what is hard to describe.
SAFI is unique.
