Who is actually Peggy? Perhaps it's the niece by marriage of Oma Hans from Canada? Or is it maybe the country singer Peggy Sue? No, probably not. This question remains unanswered even after listening to the new third album by the Hamburg punk rock band Oma Hans. For those who don't know OMA HANS yet, let me briefly explain that it is another band of singer Jens Rachut (Angeschissen, Blumen am Arsch der Hölle, Dackelblut, Kommando Sonne-nmilch). OMA HANS tell absurd stories and thoughts in an abstract way, conveying a rather dark underlying mood. The lyrics are all in German, but it has little to do with D-Punk. Oma Hans have found a very unique and melancholic musical style that is also characteristic of Jensen's previous bands. OMA HANS drummer Armin almost left his ring finger on a fence just before the studio recordings. Due to the injury, Stephan Mahler (Slime, Kommando Sonne N-Milch) stepped in at short notice for this album. I have listened to the album several times now and must say that I prefer the first two releases by Oma Hans a bit more. I also have the impression that the female vocal parts, which I have always found extremely appealing in OMA HANS, are somewhat shorter on this album. My song recommendations are: "Der Kreisverkehr" and "Julia". The CD lasts just under 30 minutes, contains 12 songs, and at about 15 euros, it's not exactly a bargain (the LP is not much cheaper at around 12 euros). The packaging has turned out quite stylish, with the CD coming in a digipak featuring an appealing charcoal grill design. The outer cover shows a photo of four young chicks who, if I didn't know better, could be from Chorweiler. The corresponding male counterpart is depicted on the back. Very simple, yet effective. There is no obligation to buy this album, but for me, every cent was worth it. Oh, by the way, in case anyone is still interested, Peggy is a room landlord and the daughter of Maria.
