Here’s another album from the classics that simply must be presented - Ecke! This record also belongs in my personal top ten list of known German punk albums. Released in 1993 on Aggressive Rockproduktionen, this record by the Berlin band delivers eleven songs (and a short hidden bonus track about Campino), of which rarely one is under four minutes long. But that doesn’t matter. Because despite the unusual song lengths for political German punk, the songs keep boredom at bay from the first to the last second. Beautiful melodies and variety in tempo within the songs ensure that one streetpunk anthem after another is conjured up. The band did have a slip-up (DER SCHLÄCHTER), but you immediately forgive them in light of the other songs. The songs are delivered by what I believe is the best singer who has ever sung an album for them. The lyrics are angry and radical but do not come across as ideologically blinded. Thought has been given before arriving at the convictions represented here and now. I hate killing because I love life. But you leave me no other choice. This is the only language you will understand. I have doubted a thousand times, but now I am ready (from SELBSTJUSTIZ). In the other songs, a bit of working class shines through, along with this determination to finally drum the message into society. Despite the simplicity of the lyrics, they never drift into dullness or banality. And they are absolutely timeless, as even after twelve years they have not lost any relevance. Theoretically, they could have been written just last year. To get a better picture of the band, one should recall the band HASS, add a shot of political Oi!, and there you have DIE ZUSAMM-ROTTUNG. It’s a shame that this band has not existed for four years now and that I never managed to see them live. It will probably also be a bit difficult to get the album in its original form, but there are surely enough options online for downloading. I would take the opportunity to download it immediately if I didn’t already have the CD.
