RamTatTa - M.I.G. – 5 Track Demo CD

I have never heard of the band MIG from Cologne before; they seem to be a newer band that has just released their first demo CD. So, there are 5 tracks on this 15-minute CD-R, all of which are quite similar in style. The music leans towards a poppy indie retro rock reminiscent of the good old NDW days. So, nothing really new, but a mix that could resonate well with the average listener right now. German lyrics and a singer who has a rather pleasant voice, not too sugary sweet, but rather somewhat dark-resigned and angry, yet still quite cool. The quality of the recordings doesn't exactly blow me away; there's definitely room for improvement. Personally, I would wish for harder guitars, everything played a bit faster and more raw; I somehow miss the punk rock factor here. It all feels a bit too tame and monotonous to me; it sounds a bit too much like a school band. However, this group has potential, as MIG has a knack for simple and good melodies. The more I listen to the songs, the more I actually like them. Maybe MIG should check out bands like SKULLEY ('Lange Weile') or SWANTJE ('Mediengewaltdiskurs'), who take a similar approach but come across as a bit fresher.
If the band plays somewhere in the city, I will probably check it out, because live, such bands often come across much better than a recording can convey.
In the end, the question remains what the 3 letters stand for? Maybe 'Mit irren Grüßen'? Or perhaps it's just a reference to the Soviet military aircraft manufacturer? I don't know...
