RamTatTa - THE SHANES – Polka over serbja

Point one, there is an accent over the s in chosebuz. The Shanes are from Trier and chosebuz is located in the east. Perhaps some of you have heard of Cottbus? Good. As mentioned, The Shanes are from Trier. This is interesting because I would have placed this band anywhere else but not by the Moselle. The Shanes have been around for 15 years, and thus this recording is a LIVE BEST OF. The band creates a cheerful mix of the funniest and most popular folk styles in the world with their lineup of accordion, violin, banjo, mandolin, guitar, bass, drums, and vocals. Starting with the probably least popular folk in our latitudes, Irish folk, then a journey across France, adding a bit of polka from Poland, through the Balkans, and then off to Tennessee. I think of Gogol Bordello as a comparison.
That means, it does go with the usual R n R support of drums, guitar, and bass
in only one direction.....
Wouldn't be the first band that finds me lately. For a few pre-tour gigs, it has definitely been enough so far. The promo blurb speaks of the co-founders of the Balkan trend. Well then. As an old folkie, I have definitely found one of my current favorite records here.
