Man, I was really looking forward to this sampler. Just reading the initial announcement made my mouth water. Last weekend, while I was hanging around a record stand at a festival and heard the seller promoting the record with the words "It rocks every party...", I was already drooling. And what can I say? The wait was worth it, and the anticipation is topped by this thing. Just the presentation makes my heart race. Awesome cover art and texts, pictures, and information in the booklet. This is how it should be. For example, I didn't know that Bud Spencer himself contributed to some of the film scores. Respect! But now to the most important part of a CD: the music. It is almost exclusively more than successful and makes the sampler a gem. The heroes of our youth come to life and really bring the noise. Sometimes the original melodies are mixed up, very nicely varied, sometimes relaxed or fast and breezy, it can also be sassy and roaring. But the original compositions are also impressive and fit seamlessly in, like the Bad Nenndorf Boys, who kick things off with a bang. In between, clips from the films bring the big guy and his better half back to life. What follows is best experienced for yourself; I can't highlight anyone in particular, as with each listen, a different song sticks in my ear. Alongside those just mentioned, there are definitely Springtoifel, Zwakkelmann, Gumbles, Testosteron, Eight Balls, Thee Flanders, Los Placebos, Anger Management League, Supernichts, Ausgelebt, Atomspione, Brigade S, Annex 5, Small Town Riot, Eastside Boys, Mr. Blue, EK77, Roimungstrupp, Projekt Kotelett, and Los Alborotadores (I hope I didn't forget anyone). Ska, Punk, Oi!, and who knows what else keep the grin on my face from disappearing. So I'm excited, cooking myself some beans, grabbing a beer and a whiskey, and watching "Die rechte und die linke Hand des Teufels" for the umpteenth time! Cheers!
