Micha was kind enough to let me discuss this album by the guys from Leeds, as he doesn't really connect with Oi! Well, that's a shame for him, because this is quite decent stuff. Pleasant Oi! Punk in the classic style, which immediately reminds me of the Cockney Rejects or Hardskin. The latter especially because Geoffrey Oi!Cott seems to take themselves just as little seriously on "The Good, The Bad & The Googly" and in the last song they oppose the Barmy Army with their Pyjama Army, which is quite funny. Otherwise, this offers solid Oi! that gets you moving a few times and features some nice sing-alongs. The voice roars nicely but not intrusively, just right. What I feel is somewhat missing is the hit on the record, the songs that stick in your head. I've played this thing a few times now and I find it hard to remember specific songs (since the melody of the last song is a cover, I'll exclude that from the evaluation), but the overall positive impression remains. This is a solid Oi! album that is of high quality and would have a solid midfield position in the Premier League, although the sport of the Leeds folks seems to be cricket if I interpret the album title correctly. The cover is a nice nod to the 4-Skins, making it clear where the journey is headed. The rest of the booklet consists of a few pictures and a kind of mini-poster, which is nice, but I would have preferred the lyrics to read along. Oh yes, the Cockney Rejects are also covered with Oi!Oi!Oi!, which is very well done. The limited vinyl version also includes the complete album as a CD, which is quite something. All in all, this album has a lot to offer and for fans of the classic Oi! sound, it's a safe bet; everyone else should give it a listen too. It was released by XFist Records., which belongs to Bosstuneage. You can reach the band through their MySpace page.
