After three years, the Düsseldorf band is back with a new album. Three years is a long time for a band. So I was very curious about what to expect. The cover of the disc features the gentleman from the old 50 DM note, but we are now with OIRO, and the band calls their album “Past Tube“. A cumbersome title. What does the band want to tell us? Titles like “Always Busy at the Guinness Book“, “Is Goofy Actually a Dog“ or “Traveler, Not a Tourist“ raise hopes for good songs. However, what plays in the CD player is hard to put into words. When I wanted to turn up the volume, the CD started to screech terribly. But that was probably intentional, as the disc continued to play smoothly. The lyrics are hardly audible, not because they are bad, but because they are overshadowed by the music. Music that strongly resembles SUPERNICHTS, SUPERNICHTS in Emo. Melodies are scarce and are ruthlessly destroyed by effects and solos. Why the band is called OIRO, promotes the characteristic “Oi“, and then makes such music is a mystery to me, just as it is how this CD can be considered a good record. Utterly dreadful music, somewhere between Emo, Experimental, and hearing damage.
