RamTatTa - THE REAL MC KENZIES – OFF THE LEASH

For 14 years now, the Canadian punk band with Scottish roots, THE REAL MC KENZIES, has been around. 14 years that have been fully lived. On stage, and afterwards as well. The Scotch whiskey flows and continues to flow in streams. The energy that the band brings live is unmatched. The band lives this music. “Off the Leash“ is not much different. Even the first track “Chip“ is worth buying the album. Catchy and exhilarating. The bagpipes are perfectly showcased. The second song pushes the gas pedal even further. The songs are fast, melodic, and receive the honesty they need through the rough, charismatic voice of Paul Mc Kenzie. However, the band can also perform slower, sadder, and more contemplative songs. Whether this is due to age, the tumultuous history of the Scottish people, personal experiences, or simply the need to catch a breath on stage remains to be seen. One thing is certain, this album manages to captivate anyone who is not deaf. My legs are itching, with each song a little more. I have to move! Pogo in the living room, hope the neighbor doesn't start howling right away.
So, I'm a bit calmer now, the record keeps playing.
THE REAL MC KENZIES have a unique feature, they mix punk rock with traditional Scottish melodies and the smell of the pub. One could call the band the inventors of the Scottish folk-punk rock sound. No band conveys this sound as well as this band from Canada. Almost every song on the album is a hit.
The live energy has been transferred to the album, but it only partially does justice to a concert experience. You have to see THE REAL MC KENZIES live as well.
“Off the Leash“ is only meant to bridge the time between concerts and keep the memory alive, as well as to stir up anticipation for the next concert. With this album, the band has impressively solidified their status. Great album, great band. 9 points, and both thumbs up!
