ARMS AND SLEEPERS was founded in 2006 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and despite their young age, they have already released several works, including full albums, EPs, and self-released albums. Now they present their album "Matador" on Expect Candy, which I find to be a completely rounded affair. ++++ ARMS AND SLEEPERS are often described as an electric duo, which certainly captures the essence of their sound. Blending in are significant elements of ambient and dream pop, creating the perfect soundtrack for a lounge evening or the business suite of an airport. And I mean that in a positive way. Ethereal electronic playfulness, subtle brass hints, acoustic guitars, minimal drumming, and dreamy piano sounds dominate the music, which is enhanced by understated, almost hypnotic (male/female) vocals. There are beautifully subtle melodies that emerge throughout the pieces and then fade away, creating tension arcs of the highest caliber. ++++ The duo is still relatively unknown in this country but should soon win the hearts of all who appreciate the aforementioned music. Those who want to convince themselves should first check out their Myspace page and then take the opportunity to attend a concert during their extensive European tour in 2010. ++++ As a small special note, it should be mentioned that the EU pressing contains a total of 11 tracks (43 minutes), in contrast to the North American edition, which has to settle for 10 tracks. The vinyl edition will be limited to 500 copies, with the first 100 on golden wax. ++++ Worth it.
