From the capital to Bielefeld and back again. This best describes the journey of the album by PLACENTA. The five guys come from Berlin, their label is in Bielefeld, and I sit in Berlin.
I must say that I have never heard of PLACENTA, which might also be because Death Metal is not exactly my specialty. However, the record is here now, and anyone who takes the effort to send something my way should certainly be acknowledged.
The production of the album strikes me first. It is really ultra-fat. The sound comes across as more than powerful. It practically overwhelms you. The album can be unreservedly described as a hurricane of strength 12 in terms of sound.
PLACENTA play a crude and wild mix of Death Metal with brutal hardcore elements. In their songs, the band packs an incredible number of breaks, tempo changes, and different vocal parts that can make you dizzy. As if that weren't enough, some heavily distorted samples and effects are mixed into the songs, making you really think you are dealing with a completely crazy horde.
I wonder how the band plans to implement this live. There is so much coordination and timing required that you either have to know the songs in your sleep or you will fail spectacularly.
PLACENTA really don't fit into any drawer with their blend, which I find quite positive, as mindless metal blasting is truly not my thing.
By now, I have listened to this album for the third time, and I am still amazed at what the band has put together. “Fixed Action Pattern“ is a great way to clear your head, almost like an ego-shooter for the soul.
