THE REAL MC KENZIES.
There are hardly any other bands that represent captivating folk-punk like this band.
There are hardly any other bands that are so fantastic live and always give their all.
There are hardly any bands that tour as much and are so extremely resilient when it comes to drinking.
In a word, THE REAL MC KENZIES are unique!
Also unique was the idea of playing acoustic sets three days in a row at Berlin's Wild at Heart. The evenings were recorded live and are now available in outstanding sound quality. Allegedly, there is supposed to be a DVD of it as well, but the sources are currently unclear. I only have the version without moving colorful images. For now, all I can do is stare at the TVs there during every visit to Wild at Heart, order a proper shot of Scotch whiskey, and think back to the fantastic evenings in August 2009.
Those who were there know what I mean. It was three days in the height of summer filled with sweat, beer, and partying. The band played three fantastic nights, and even though the sweat dripped from the ceiling and the liquid consumed was immediately sweated out 1:1, both the audience and the band were always in great spirits and well-conditioned.
It was an unforgettable experience!
From these three evenings, the best versions have now been captured on CD. A total of 21 songs have made their way onto the CD. Each individual song is not just played acoustically by the band; it is celebrated, and each song is unique. THE REAL MC KENZIES have really thought about how to play the songs. The result is songs that simply come across brilliantly. Singer Paul is in a good mood, and the audience is too.
The well-known classics like “Nessie,” “10,000 Shots,” or “Best Day until tomorrow” are featured on the album, as well as “Chip” from the current studio album. Fans are unlikely to miss any song. With the new arrangements, this live record is not just a best-of but a full-fledged album, showcasing that the band can play fantastically even without electricity. When Paul & Co. are old, they can still tour successfully through the pubs of the world with these versions.
