Here comes something new from Italy.
Well, not really new, DUFRESNE from Vicenza have already released two albums and the current album “AM:PM“ is the latest.
The five Italians offer a solid mix of mass-compatible rock, which always comes across as somewhat melancholic due to the slightly dark aura typical of Italians. The melodies are refined, and the guitar riffs are sometimes surprisingly placed, making the ears perk up as the album plays through the player. The two singers, Nicola and Matteo, do a very good job.
In terms of sound, it’s rock paired with emo, classic crossover, and even slight screamo influences.
Somehow, the melodies give the impression that you’ve heard it all somewhere before. It’s not exactly niche music, but it’s also far from making it into heavy rotation on MTV. DUFRESNE are caught between chairs, just like their music.
The lyrics are quite personal and often deal with the self and how to maintain it upright and fighting in the daily world that crashes down on you, because you are not alone.
All in all, “AM:PM“ is quite decent.
A bit more profile and a bit more subculture would do the band good.
