It has been 7 years since “Männer, Bomben, Satelliten“ saw the light of day. The album by the band from Wattenscheid was catchy, provocative, and until now probably represented the best album by DIE KASSIERER.
Now comes the band's new strike. The work is titled “Physik“ and contains 22 tracks. One might naturally wonder whether the artistic output was that large or if there are also a few fillers included.
The beginning is promising. An older voice informs the listener that the secrets of the galaxy are hidden behind the wallpaper. After that, the listener is greeted by singer Wölfi in various languages. They are polite, those from Wattenscheid.
With “Nieder mit der Arbeit“, Wölfi not only represents the opinion of those who enjoy doing nothing, but also points out that you always need people who finance you. Yes, why not. Let the people who want to work, work. Life has more meaning than just going to work. Very refreshing, especially in these times.
The announcement for the next song nearly knocked me off my chair; the song is titled “Ich fick dich durch die ganze Wohnung“. DIE KASSIERER and sex, here it is again.
It's a great song, by the way. Sex can also happen outside of the bed. However, what the “Beklopptenzimmer” is supposed to be, the band still needs to explain to me. But I wouldn't be surprised if my parents had said when I was a child, “The Beklopptenzimmer needs to be cleaned again.”
Another great song is “Ich war ein Spinner“. The lyrics are about someone who used to provoke and behaved strangely in the eyes of many, but is now serious. A bit of everyone can probably relate to this, especially those who were punks with mohawks in their youth but now have a stable job and identify with the success of that job. Yes, that's how it goes for many people as they get older. I'm sure everyone knows such people.
Shortly after comes the true statement “Für die Aussicht auf Geschlechtsverkehr tun Männer fast alles“. It's crazy how easily we can be seen through. Why this sentence introduces the song “Radioaktiv“ is hard to interpret, but the band must have had something in mind.
The song “Universum“ is a typical, likable, and wonderfully absurd song by the band that serves as a hymn to the world and alcohol itself. Live, this song will surely be celebrated properly.
With “Mir ist alles piepe“, the band has created a great song about people who always just go with the flow. This song lifts your spirits and relaxes you. You can sing along too.
Up to that point, the album is a solid, very varied, and humor-filled album by DIE KASSIERER.
The second half unfortunately drops off a bit. Some songs that are really funny are mixed in here. Even after multiple listens, I don't know if DIE KASSIERER really know what they are doing. Sometimes it feels like dadaist punk rock.
Highlights of the second half are “Zitronenhai“, “Wirtshausschlägerei“ (freely based on the classic “In der Weihnachtsbäckerei“), and “Ich niese immer Scharlatan“. There is also a song by Georg Kreisler, who is particularly appreciated by singer Wölfi. Mambo Kurt is also featured on the CD, as well as the only German zither orchestra. Ambition, folk art, and entertainment music in close quarters.
You definitely have to listen to “Physik“, but then it reveals more and more with each listen what it is. A great work of art by the powerful Kassierer.
