Here it is, the long-awaited album from 2010 by the Berlin-based band THE OFFENDERS. The first album, titled “Hooligan Reggae,” became more than just a footnote in the relevant scene media. The band, which was originally founded in Italy in 2005, quickly gained recognition beyond Italy's borders. Their 2Tone ska, combined with reggae elements, is beautifully old school and reminiscent of the good old days of scooter boys and skinheads from the first and second wave. However, the band doesn't just sing about the past; their lyrics are mainly rooted in modern times. Songs like “Action Reaction” or the combative “Run from Riot Squad” are unmistakable! The band does not rest on a danceable style and enjoys full concert halls. THE OFFENDERS are also very politically engaged and want to shake things up with their songs, showing that change is indeed possible. The band demonstrates that humanity and love are also essential with the sweet “For the Rudegirls,” a love letter to all the smart rudegirls in the world.
The symbol of the Trojan-Skins adorns the cover of the CD, and the fact that the band maintains the traditional style of skinheads, both lyrically and musically, can be observed in every song. It progresses beautifully melodically at a mid-tempo pace. Always danceable and always varied. The arrangements are sophisticated despite their simple basic rhythm. In particular, the wonderful Hammond organ, the guitar, and Valerio's well-accentuated vocals make “Action Reaction” a fantastic work. It is an evolution of their style without neglecting the foundational pillars.
With this album, THE OFFENDERS make it clear that they hold a significant place in the scene. Their live concerts are worth seeing, and it's understood that people dance and have fun together. Their popularity and status across Europe can be clearly seen in their current tour schedule. Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Hungary, and Croatia are just a few of the countries the band will honor this year. And in 2011, another album is already planned to follow!
