BOB WAYNE is a country singer, but not the kind of country where the forced kitsch oozes from every pore; rather, he mixes country, rockabilly, and hillbilly into an honest blend that packs a punch. The well-known label PEOPLE LIKE YOU has also noticed this and signed BOB WAYNE. Until now, Bob had produced and sold his records himself to anyone who wanted them. They were simple, probably burned, and without much frills.
That is now over. BOB WAYNE has released his first album. An album that I really like. Why? A significant part of it is BOB WAYNE's voice. It is rough, sometimes dreamy, sometimes melancholic, boozy, shaped by countless cigarettes, and above all, Bob knows how to handle it. He can sing, he can hold notes, and he uses his voice so precisely in every song that you can't help but be captivated by it. A voice that sounds of experience, desert, saddle, dust, and a lot of whiskey. In short, a voice that is perfect for this music.
However, BOB WAYNE did not record the songs alone with his voice and guitar, but with a band. There are double bass players, violinists, and other buddies celebrating his music together with him. It is sometimes powerful and sometimes emotional, but always right on point. Here too, you can tell that not only BOB WAYNE but also his fellow musicians really know their stuff. In the studio, he was accompanied by David Roe, Andy Gibson, and Donnie Harran, the latter of whom has also played with Bob Dylan.
It is an illustrious bunch that has come together to breathe life into “Outlaw Carnie.” They have succeeded very well. Outlaw sound for the outlaws of the world.
If I knew more musicians like BOB WAYNE, I would surely become a country fan.
BOB WAYNE will be on tour starting at the end of January; when he stops in your city with his dark crew, go see him!
