The "somewhat great German punk combo" Fahnenflucht is back after 5 years of silence regarding album releases, with an album that is even faster and harder than the previous ones.
With the new record, the band continues what they started in 2003 with "KO-System": faster, flawless, political German punk.
"Schwarzmaler" is the name of the album with 12 tracks. And right from the first track "Augen auf!", the album impresses both lyrically and musically, a song that sets the pace for the entire record.
On the first listen, the good sound quality stands out immediately, as does the catchy nature of the second track "Schwarzmaler", which has already appeared online as a Making Of video. On the other hand, I feel that Thomas's voice becomes more distinctive with each album.
Musically, the album hits exactly the right spot for me: highly melodic, powerful, and fast German punk. There is not a second of boredom, and it shakes the place for three-quarters of an hour.
This album cannot just be played in the background; you have to fully engage with it. The "singing along" is initially a bit challenging, which can be attributed to the speed. But after several listens, that becomes no longer a problem, especially since the lyrics are clearly understandable.
In summary: An album that convinces and pleases in every aspect.
