In the relatively new genre of Deathcore, new bands are emerging almost daily, particularly notable for their very young members, while their sound and recordings already resemble those of the big names. In most genres, it takes several years to master recording and playing techniques. This does not mean that this style can be played virtuously after just a few hours on the travel guitar, but rather that there are many musicians here who are creatively and boldly engaged, driven by enthusiasm and the desire to create something new.
Such are the guys from CHERISHED, hailing from the heart of the Ruhr area.
The debut album is titled “Horizon Falls” and presents interested listeners with ten tracks that, as mentioned above, can hold their own in terms of recording quality against other albums and bands in the genre. The foundation of the songs leans more towards Death Metal than Hardcore, which is most noticeable in the vocals and the heavy pounding parts accompanied by high guitar riffs.
CHERISHED is very varied, and most songs are filled with tempo changes, riffs that give the songs a different direction time and again, and the vocals of Micha, who can convey almost the entire range of vocal cords between deep growls and high screams.
All of this is impressive for a debut and continues to amaze, as the guys are still considered absolute newcomers in terms of age. However, they do not show this for a second on this CD, as what is unleashed to the public truly does not sound like a product of childhood.
Whether one needs to write something about the pride the band feels in the promotional material, I do not know. The word makes me break out in hives quickly, but so be it.
Overall, CHERISHED delivers a solid performance that is pleasing and piques curiosity about the band's further development.
