And once again, another band that doesn't shy away from releasing a "Best Of" to celebrate their 20th anniversary. I won't delve into the pros and cons of this type of album this time, as I've already done that extensively elsewhere.
Popperklopper, founded in the autumn of 1989 in Irrel, Südeifel, will release a CD+DVD titled "20 Years of Popperklopper" in May on the new label Aggropunk. The 23 tracks on the CD are a very good compilation of their work since the band's early days, and thus, there is at least one song from every previously released record, including split EPs, represented on the album. Popperklopper presents one earworm classic after another, from older pieces like "Elendszug" and "Leben im KZ" to newer ones like "Belogen und Betrogen" and "Keine Gefühle" from their last album.
Unfortunately, I only received a link with the stream of the CD, so I can't report on the actual important things like the live recordings from the concert in Trier, rehearsal room recordings from 1993, and the videos from their stay in Russia in 2005.
Popperklopper still ranks among my top 10 German punk bands with their socially and critically aware lyrics, and I'm already looking forward to the Resist to Exist festival in August in Berlin.
