Band. Moonshine Gamblers – Addicted to Rust
Medium: CD
Moonshine Gamblers from Düsseldorf, what can I expect here? I have no idea. So, let's relax, turn on the system, put in the CD, and head to the kitchen to make a pot of coffee (it's half past 10 on a Saturday morning) and then let’s go.
The system thumps, it crashes from all corners... wow, what do we have here. High-speed ass-kicking Punk'n'Roll. "Addicted" bangs, it smells like whiskey, cigars, and thick hot rods. What on earth am I supposed to do with my coffee?
Then it continues... but first a guessing game, because according to the tracklist, a requiem for Cassius Clay should come next, but instead, we first have a hymn to the motherfucker “Bad Johnny” which sounds a bit like Johnny Cash on LSD. But it’s all just fat produced.
“Family” also comes with a slight Cash influence, but always in the whiskey-soaked “big balls” rock manner.
Unbelievable that something like this comes from Germany, and then from Düsseldorf. Tennessee USA would be more fitting.
“six feet under” is so far the first piece that plays a bit too much with the rock'n'roll attitudes and sounds very rockabilly, although I really hope I'm right with the title name because the CD is not in the order as it appears on the cover. But it doesn't matter. It’s just fun to listen to this. You can tell that every single musician here is not an amateur playing their instruments; everything is very well mixed and still doesn’t sound overproduced, but like a big roaring V8 engine waiting to finally be unleashed on the highway.
As a special listening tip, I recommend the magical number 7. “Victim of Speed” just bursts with joy of playing, distorted guitars with lots of stoner sound.
Man, I need a '68 Mustang with a fat sound system so I can show the Düsseldorf fashion world that there are still real men here who don’t just play rock'n'roll, but celebrate it.
To conclude the 8-track demo CD, “Untitled” brings up really good vibes again. Simply top-notch what has been presented to me here. Now I’m waiting to see what awaits me live in the near future. I can almost smell the sweat and the beer.
You did it..... I give you the highest score for the coolest rock'n'roll in a long time!!!!
