A beautiful morning, a cup of coffee, and finally writing a review without stress. Without rushing around.
This is how it should be.
Today, I have the punk rockers from Face to Face on the imaginary turntable, who are currently touring the USA with Strong Out and Blitzkid.
And the US boys present their new long player "Laugh now, laugh Later", which could also mean a breakthrough internationally.
Right from the first track "Should anything go wrong", it starts off at full speed. Finest punk rock in the style of Born to Lose. And those who know this band know what to expect.
Next, it continues with pop-punk. "Its all about you" is a hit, or at least it could become one. A bit of Blink 182, a bit of Green Day, and a whole lot of mass appeal. In contrast to the opener, I find this one rather boring and hope that it doesn't continue like this the whole time.
Oh no, with "in your Hand", it continues to appeal to all the college boys and girls. An appeal to the wallet... buy us, we are hip. What a shame. With "Bombs away", there’s a bit of variety again. Somehow, this is strange about this album. Either extremely cool or extremely poppy. Now we have another track that is extremely cool and fun to listen to because, despite all the pop attitudes, there is still a certain hardness to it. With "Blood in the Water", they try to push the vocal style a bit into the indie direction, which adds a bit more spice. But afterwards, it seamlessly transitions back into the extreme pop attitude, which clearly brings back the boredom. This doesn’t really have much to do with punk. I knew it was pop-punk. But I didn’t expect the pop to be so prominent. And this continues until the end of the CD.
Well, that was unfortunately nothing. Aside from the opening song ""Should anything go wrong" and "Bombs away", the listener can expect nothing other than polished college rock with just a tiny bit of punk rock.
And if they deliver it live like this, then I would say that Blitzkid will send them straight to rock 'n' roll hell. Because on this tour, they will surely be played against the wall.
