HEARTSOUNDS are releasing their new album "Drifter" on Epitaph Records.
In 2010, the band released their last album "Until we surrender," and since it was well received by Epitaph, the band is following up with "Drifter" after just one year.
HEARTSOUNDS come from the USA and play a sound that I had almost forgotten. It is exactly the melodic hardcore / melodic punk rock, or skate punk sound that many associate with the Californian punk school that NOFX sees as a god, and only afterwards as a band made of flesh and blood.
This sound is still familiar to me from the 5BUGS from Berlin, when the band still stepped on the gas, played at "Schools Out" parties, and showed that speed, technical skill, and a high degree of melody and variety can go together. Meanwhile, the band has shifted into a softer mode, but has also gained more success. So be it.
HEARTSOUNDS have not changed so far. They blast twelve songs into the ears that are all of very high quality. Speed, skill, melody, variety through breaks, tempo changes, partly two-part vocals, it’s all there. It’s generally fun to listen to. Right now in summer, it grabs you and takes you on a thrilling journey through the half-pipe. This is the sound of skateboarders! Good vibes are spread here; this is music that simply brings joy.
The band maintains the level throughout all twelve songs, which, however, slightly dampens the overall impression. Everything is great, but as whirlwind-like as the songs are and as much fun as they overall provide, they still lack that final touch on the home stretch that the band needs to really stick in your ear.
