Who does the cover remind you of?
Of the big green Hulk, or perhaps of the cover of “Mein Kopf dem Henker“ by Troopers from Berlin. Of course, the cover is not primarily meant to copy, but to show what SELFISH HATE are. The guys from Freiburg im Breisgau are strong, unyielding, and live their lives. Just like one is in hardcore, indestructible and powerful in standing for one's own life.
SELFISH HATE make no secret of what they are. They are a hardcore band of the American school. So anyone who is into Agnostic Front, Madball, and similar calibers will find a lot to appreciate in SELFISH HATE.
The production is thick, the vocals powerful, the guitars aggressive, and the sound varied. Everything is there that is needed to become known in the hardcore scene. Seen this way, “Unbreakable“ is a really good record.
However, what brings the band back into the mix of the masses are the lyrics. Here, they sing about the usual genre topics that many bands have sung about before and will certainly continue to sing about in the future. Family, one's own life, the hate and anger one feels when navigating the world, the injustice of war, and the longing for a better, fairer world. This doesn’t make the band bad, but aside from a few exceptions, it is standard. Given that this quartet from Southern Germany has been around for 5 years, they could have done more with it. Thus, “Unbreakable“ is a solid number, perfectly suited for a little escape with its eight songs.
