As part of the release of the complete back catalog of BANDA BASSOTTI through Rude Recordz, I have the pleasure of writing a few lines about the band's first live album from Rome.
The recordings for the double live album “UN ALTRO GIORNO D´AMORE“ date back to 2001, making it 10 years old this year. One could certainly compare this album with the last double live album “Check Point Kreuzberg“. However, I do not wish to do that here. Those who analyze and study everything down to the smallest detail can take care of that.
Instead, I want to say a few words about the band, their attitude, and their musical qualities.
BANDA BASSOTTI is a band that has always opposed injustice, corruption, fascist ideologies, and capitalism since its inception. It is a band that carries the thoughts of the labor movement in its heart and on its tongue. It is a band that sees self-management and justice as points to defend and create. Thoughts of socialism and communism are not foreign to the band. Why should they be? Wealth and prosperity for those who create it. Primarily, these are the people with small and medium incomes, because what would the corporate bosses be without them? And why is capitalism still considered the ultimate system? A system that exploits people, keeps the poor poor, and makes the rich richer is inhumane, unsocial, and generally to be rejected. The band emphasizes this as well!
Musically, the band made it clear with the 24 songs on two CDs back in 2001 that they belong to one of the best ska-punk bands in Italy. That has not changed to this day.
Many songs featured on this recording still find their place on today's concert setlists. This shows that the songs are still relevant and not much has changed. Besides that, they are really great live hits!
Musically, some songs are played differently but still come across convincingly.
The recording is almost perfect. Here and there, compared to the current live album, there could be a bit more pressure, but otherwise, everything fits. The songs, the audience, the band, the energy that radiates from the double album. All of this fits perfectly!
So, it can only be said that anyone who does not yet have “UN ALTRO GIORNO D´AMORE“ must get this record. Thanks to Rude Recordz from Milan, it is now available digitally as well.
In November 2011, BANDA BASSOTTI will perform at the “Punk Italia“ festival at S.O. 36 in Berlin-Kreuzberg! A visit to this festival is highly recommended to every reader of ramtatta.de.
