We are slowly expanding our focus at ramtatta.de. In addition to music in all its forms, we now also offer literature.
Winter is coming, dear publishers, so we won't be hanging around in the pedestrian zone for hours, bothering people. We want it warm and cozy. So if you have fresh reading material, send it our way!
Alright, enough of the advertising and flattery, let's move on to something completely different.
In front of me lies the first comic book by Andre Lux.
In addition to various label activities, Andre has a creative streak that demands satisfaction. This was already the case in school. While the math teacher was explaining integral curves, Andre was drawing his first short stories out of boredom. Not elaborate, but very simple stick figures. He named his main character Egon. Egon has experienced a lot during the years Andre was in school. Fortunately, Andre collected his comics, and he recently found them in his parents' attic. Too good to throw away, he decided. In the multimedia age, it was easy to put the first drawings online and showcase them at concerts. Enthusiasm greeted him.
So, what does one do now? Exactly, one asks a publisher if they would be interested in stick figure drawings, because that hasn't been done yet, but everyone knows it and it's totally subversive anyway.
The Engelsdorfer Verlag from Leipzig was convinced that they were holding the next big thing after The Simpsons, and so “Egon Forever“ is now in front of me.
Folks, imagine 82 pages of stick figure drawings! Totally crazy!
If anyone thinks that it doesn't work to create short strips with stick figures that are still substantial, they are gravely mistaken!
Andre Lux is a clever Swabian. He has distilled everything down to the essence that matters, and thus he manages to convey something with just one image at times.
The 82 pages are subversive, provocative, politically incorrect, sexist, brash, and at times almost dadaistic and wonderfully funny.
The dry humor, the combative flash of the provocateur, and the reference to everyday life are excellently expressed by Andre here in the shortest form.
It is refreshing to flip through the pages and experience the adventures of Egon. In my opinion, the best strips are those drawn with Egon's buddy Franco.
Andre Lux has created little works of art here and has surely fulfilled a dream with this book.
Thank you, dear Engelsdorfer Verlag, for letting Egon see the wide world!
We want more of this, “EGON FOREVER!“!!
