Tsubasa - Starting Shot
Tsubasa, a young band from Langenfeld - Düsseldorf, clearly shows how vibrant the music scene is. Founded only in March of this year, they have already released their first recording to the public. And it’s impressive. 4 songs that have been produced in very good quality. A sound that strongly leans towards pop-punk rock. And the target audience is also easy to identify. But since the good stuff is available for free download, I would say that fans of Kind im Magen! and Radio Havanna should just grab it for their computer and see for themselves.
It’s always difficult to write a review when you only have 4 songs to listen to. I would like to quote a colleague from Ramtatta here. This is more of a preview of a possibly upcoming album.
1000 Ballads, the first track, comes pleasantly booming from the speakers. A good recording that Tsubasa delivers. And the quality of the musicians is also impressive. You can already tell that you can rely on the band info I have. Each instrumentalist has experience in both live and studio settings. Therefore, it’s personally enjoyable for me to listen here. Harmonized vocals and a chart-worthy chorus that encourages sing-alongs, as long as you know the lyrics.
With "Keiner sieht hin," the next beach party is called out sound-wise. High school pop-punk rock in the style of Blink182 comes here in German. Personally, I find it a bit too tame, too melodic. Because there should be much more "guts" involved, as the lyrics are anything but sunshine and rainbows. But still interesting. But as I said, I’m into melody and arrangement. And that definitely comes through here.
"Kein Wort zu viel" also comes booming out of the speakers with a very cheerful melody. Sweet and radio-friendly. Unfortunately, after the third track, I find it too mainstream and lacking in rock'n'roll attitude in the music. However, I don’t want to interpret that negatively, because I still somehow like it, as it’s just feel-good music.
The last track comes across a bit rougher, and that’s exactly what I want to hear. "Wenn sie scheint" has guitars, a certain rock touch for Tsubasa, and still a sing-along chorus. This is how the hopefully upcoming long player could sound.
I won’t be giving any grades or points here, because I think these 4 pieces are just a little appetizer. Qualitatively, we have a good piece of music here. Stylistically, anyone who enjoys poppy sounds can thoughtlessly dive in. It’s just everyday music that sticks in your brain at first, but you shouldn’t expect too much.
However, I would love to experience the guys from Tsubasa live, because I can imagine that the songs have a completely different character there.
In this sense... on to the free download
