In the past, it was common to release singles alongside an album to generate additional sales, provide radio stations with material, and offer fans a few extra songs that didn't make it onto the album. In the age of downloads, whether legal or illegal, this form of music release has become unattractive for many bands and labels.
For THE BOSS HOSS, who released their new album “Liberty of Action” on November 25, 2011, “Don´t gimme that” serves as the first taste of the album with its release on November 11, 2011.
The CD includes two songs that are also featured on the album, albeit in different versions.
The title track of the single CD is in the single version, which makes sense; otherwise, it would be the album version that is on the album. It makes sense, but it's not very original.
The first song is quite typical for THE BOSS HOSS. Snappy country-pop-rock with a catchy drumbeat and lyrics that are also very typical for the laid-back cowboy.
“Take my money, take my car, but don’t take my guitar.”
Lyrics like these sound bold and very cool, but they also clearly show that we men are willing to compromise when it comes to relationships, but we won’t let anyone take our heart of rock’n’roll. Yes, maybe the song is a bit chauvinistic, but it’s also damn cool. The 3:28 minutes have groove and are fun. Typical THE BOSS HOSS!
The second song “Riding High, Singing Low” leans even more towards classic country, but it’s also a song you would expect from the urban cowboys of Berlin. Again, plenty of groove and a chorus that will have you singing along enthusiastically by the second listen.
A delicious appetizer that THE BOSS HOSS has unleashed upon humanity. Like a greeting from the kitchen that whets the appetite for more.
