TEMPLETON PEK have been touring the stages of this world for years. The bands they have played with read like a Who's Who of loud guitar music. Rise Against, Good Charlotte, and Bullet for my Valentine are the bands with whom the trio TEMPLETON PEK recently shared the stage.
Between skate punk, melody core, emo, and the soundtrack of teenage room chaos, the band has felt right at home lately. Their music is more mature than one might guess from reading. More Rise Against, more punk rock, but also a certain mass appeal that has brought the band increasing success in recent years.
The album “No Association“ from 2007 has been sitting around for a while. The new EP “Slow Down for Nothing“ by TEMPLETON PEK is a good reason to throw that record back on the turntable to hear how the band has evolved.
Lo and behold, the band has indeed evolved. While they have generally remained true to their style, four years in the tour bus and on stage have left their mark. The songs on the new EP are more anthemic. The vocals are more refined, and the arrangements are catchier than in 2007.
The song “Call to Disarm“ is a real banger that must be heard loud, and when the drums are unleashed after the slower vocal parts and the mid-tempo mosh parts, there’s no holding back. A song to warm up and dance in the pit. As the gym teacher used to say in school, good warming up prevents injuries. The good man was right.
With the song “Clarity“, which encourages taking life into one's own hands, things really get going. Full vocals meet fast drums and riff-heavy guitars. By the end of this song, the first beads of sweat will be on your forehead if you haven’t fled the mosh pit yet.
TEMPLETON PEK skillfully take the tempo out of their songs time and again to give them more character and meaning. Anyone can blast angrily; TEMPLETON PEK can do more.
So it’s no surprise that the band has become increasingly well-known in recent years. With this EP, the trio will continue on their path.
