RANDOM HAND hail from the UK and have been making waves not only there but also on the European mainland and in North America for several years. The band has played over a thousand concerts, yet they have been a completely blank slate for me until now. Sometimes I wonder what I might be missing out on, but that is about to change. “Seething is Believing” is the band's third album, and it is currently spinning in my system.
RANDOM HAND play a sound that reminds me of my younger years. Years when skate punk and ska punk were among my favorite music, and I looked forward to every band that played this sound. At some point, that enthusiasm waned, but the sound has been preserved by musicians over time and is now being presented to me again.
The band does not play a sound that was trendy 10-15 years ago in the same way, but rather gives the style a modern, powerful interpretation.
RANDOM HAND play skate punk, melody core, skate punk, or whatever you want to call the mixture of punk rock, ska, metal, and hardcore. Mighty Mighty Bosstones send their regards, as do bands from the skate punk scene.
The 11 songs feature a mix of tracks with and without brass instruments, providing a lot of variety. The album remains engaging even after multiple listens. This is also due to the refined, captivating arrangements that show the band has been playing together for a long time. Everything sounds relaxed and well put together. The recording fits perfectly, ensuring that the band will certainly take another step forward with this album.
All eleven songs will definitely hit hard live, that much is certain. I can imagine a mosh pit for every song, and that is exactly what the band loves. Playing live and having a party together is something they have proven on over a thousand concerts.
This album comes highly recommended for anyone with a skateboard or at least a thought of the board.
RANDOM HAND provide the soundtrack for a summer day in the halfpipe.
