The Volldrops are a relatively young punk band from Schwandorf in Bavaria, who casually recorded a live demo tape in their rehearsal space. If you're wondering what the band name means, let me help you out: The word "Volldrop" comes from East Germany and simply means nothing other than complete idiot. The name immediately makes the punk rock trio likable, and they also stand out from other bands: The frontman is also the drummer, which is rare and requires a lot of commitment on stage, something not everyone can manage. The result, however, is that it sounds surprisingly good, and the raw, gritty voice of the drumming frontman makes the band's sound unmistakable. The tape offers a varied mix of punk rock, featuring sing-along songs and a few more thoughtful tracks. The guitarist contributes catchy melodies with his playing. The first song "Verbrecher" hits hard right away. Here, everyone gets their comeuppance, whether it's the tax advisor, the cop, the politician, the big shot, or even the stupid employment agency. In "30.000 Volt," it’s about being constantly under pressure, and that comes across vocally as well, really aggressive and pissed off. With "Flaschengeist," there’s also a pretty successful drinking song on the record. Hammer songs for sing-alongs include "Punk hey Punk" or "Bullenschwein," a very melodic song that sticks in your head, where punk from the world would love to hang out in the park and sip a beer on the side! With "Ich bereu es nicht," the guys have created a true punk rock anthem, with absolute sing-along potential, one of the best songs on the album. It hits hard. With "Da steht ihr wieder" and "Nazis raus!" there are two songs against the right-wing scum on the record, which also have a lot of lyrical impact. Thematically, it remains varied, and towards the end of the album, it becomes a bit more reflective: "Vergiss die Welt" tells that life must go on, no matter what crap happens. "Man lebt nur einmal" is a clear musical statement, and the last song "Kaputt" might be a hint for some to not work themselves to death, but to enjoy life. And you can really hear that throughout the entire album, that the people here are truly having fun with the music!
