Hasenscheisse

The former singer-songwriter duo "Hasenscheisse", which has now grown into a five-member combo, will release their third album "A-Minor" on April 20, 2012. Since I have already heard the band's 2007 hit, "Bernd am Grill", and found the song quite catchy both lyrically and musically, I was curious about what to expect from the band's album. The album features multi-part vocals, and one of the singers often sings in a Berlin accent, which adds some variety to the overall sound. The first song "Das unbedingte Ding" starts slowly and then introduces reggae-off beats. In between, the guys also sing in Spanish, English, French, and even in a Viennese accent. The band surely put a lot of effort into this, but musically it doesn't quite hit my taste. The second song, a tribute to the tried-and-true A-minor chord, has a nice text, but at a length of almost 7 minutes, it drags on quite a bit. Still, I listened on because the band's lyrics are quite good. "Kein Bock und keine Zeit" has a message for the unmotivated thirty-something, but here too, I somehow miss the pep in the music. "Ohne Feuerwasser-Kein Rock'n Roll!" is more to my liking and is meant as a tribute to all the rock stars, writers, and others who died young. A pretty funny number! "Finde deine Mitte" talks about the search for the self between incense sticks and meditation on the Camino de Santiago. "Der Alte", "Monika", and "So wie der Strauß" are also okay, but no song really blows me away musically. In the end, there's a bit of polka rhythm in the song "Hätte, hätte, hätte", which deals with the eternal philosophizing of people about what could have happened if this or that had occurred. A funny excerpt from the lyrics: "Two pubescent punks are sitting at the bar, one gets nostalgic: Man! I would have loved to be there in England back then! If my parents hadn't... ? No, write this behind your ears! Punk is dead! - But if you want, it will be reborn every day!" Conclusion of the album: Good and sometimes thought-provoking lyrics, but the music is way too calm for me! So unfortunately, I can only give it 5 out of 10. But tastes are known to differ, and "Hasenscheisse" will surely captivate some people for the long term. If you prefer a cozier vibe, you should definitely give it a listen!
