The great thing about STF-Records is that they consistently give young bands a chance to release their first album. In times when what sells and what people know is prioritized, this is highly commendable. Of course, not everything is to everyone's taste, as the label explores many genres. Metal is the main focus of the label, but now and then bands from other genres are also allowed to release on the label, as is the case with BARMY ROTE.
The four young men come from Gotha, have been a band since 2008, and during this time have not only managed to perform on stage in Germany but also traveled to Dublin as winners of the Europe-wide competition for Arthur's Day 2011 to play there.
Certainly a highlight for the band. So many bands from Germany have not played there yet.
BARMY ROTE primarily dedicates themselves to the rock sound of the 60s and 70s. In addition, there’s a solid dose of hard rock, a bit of stoner, and a knack for melodies, and there you have the rock a la BARMY ROTE.
The album is enjoyable, especially because the melodies are very catchy and the songs are pleasant to the ear. And perhaps also because here and there you hear riffs that sound familiar.
It’s quite astonishing that the band, with its relatively young musicians, plays a sound that seems to be 30 years old. One really has to tip their hat to that.
For those who appreciate solid, pleasing, and earthy rock, BARMY ROTE is certainly an enrichment.
